The Great Commission – A Study of Matthew

Matthew 28 - New International Version (NIV) – The Great Commission
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

Who led Jesus?

What was to happen to Jesus in the wilderness?

How long did Jesus fast?

What did the tempter ask Jesus?

What do the Israelites have to do to “line and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised” (NIV)?

What did God accomplish with the 40 years of leading the Israelites in the dessert?

Whose commands were the people to observe?

What kind of land is God bringing the people to?

When they have eaten and are satisfied, what are the people to do?

What will happen if the people forget the Lord God?

If the people forget God, what might they say to themselves?

In your opinion, is this something that we need to be concerned about also?

What does the Lord God give to the people?

What will happen if the Israelites (and we) forget the Lord God?

In your opinion, what does this passage teach us about Matthew 4:1-4?

In your opinion, how does having this right before the passage the devil quoted influence your understand of that passage, verses 11 and 12?

Who does verse 13 say that the person who has the Lord as a refuge and the Most High as a dwelling will trample on?

In your opinion, is there any significance in the fact that a serpent is mentioned here?

In verses 14, 15 and 16 are several promises and also three things that will trigger the promises, what are the three things:
            1)

            2)

Deuteronomy 6:13-19

How does verse 13 indicate the Israelites (we) are to respond to God?

In your opinion, is there any significance to the order of the temptations that Jesus underwent?

1 Deuteronomy 6:10-15 (we just saw part of this)
